Department of Health and Clinical Outcomes Research

The Health Data Science (HDS) program in the School of Medicine at Saint Louis University is committed to delivering an exceptional curriculum and innovative pedagogy that ensures our students are thoroughly prepared to excel in the workforce.

Using the data analytics and health care knowledge and skills learned in our program, graduates will create value for patients in the form of improving outcomes and for hospital systems and providers by discovering efficient mechanisms to deliver the best care. We support students in their training by offering in-house tutoring, small class sizes, and one-on-one support from faculty and staff. Students also have the option of collaborating with research being done within the department and across the University while in the program.

Our student body is composed of a mix of traditional and non-traditional students coming in with or without prior health care knowledge will learn to transform billions of points of raw health data into actionable insights that can have real-world implications for our population. In addition to our curriculum, we supplement academic preparedness with monthly professional development opportunities in collaboration with career services, recruiters, alumni and industry leaders through our speaker series.

HCOR faculty provide students with current, real-world examples and cutting-edge tools that make them more sought after in the workforce. Our master's students end the program with a semester long capstone course which incorporates the skills they have learned into a real-world project. By incorporating new technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning into our programming and fostering innovative research being done by our Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. students, we are making sure our students are prepared to enter the workforce with the most up to date skills required by employers.
